Battle for Leiria Series

If you want to know where this Leiria universe started, check out Jill M. Beene’s series Weapons for Leiria. Also, you can compliment the reading with my interview to the author.

Highlights

We get to explore more of Leiria. There’s a new human country never mentioned before and a different political arrangement of the land.

What to Expect

  • YA
  • No fantastical elements or setting
  • Multiple love affairs
  • Naive love
  • Multiple POV
  • Deceit
  • Court politics
  • Slow pace at times
  • Simultaneous plotlines
  • Intrigue & action build from 40% of 2nd book onwards

What I Missed

  • I’m all for a romantic series. However, going back to the setting of A Sharpened Axe, it’s a bit confusing not seeing any fantasy involved.
  • The main character evolves significantly in the story. I would have loved more teamwork and guidance from the people around her, though. They all expected this young inexperienced lady to solve everyone’s problems without giving much constructive input, like she had to come up with a magical wand.
  • Although I understand the need of the multiple POV, these secondary characters sometimes outshined the main character storyline. Their adventures took more protagonism especially later in the series.
  • I would have liked more paragraph time for Ari’s love affair. I feel we got to see more romantic interactions from others than from her.
🙏
SPECIAL REQUEST: Can we get a series where the fae, both from the North and South, actively participate? I would love to know why they closed their borders and how they used to interact and trade with humans at one point in Leiria’s history.

It would be interesting to close the timeline gap between Battle for Leiria and Weapons of Leiria series, so that we can place all the events unknown and known together.
THE END
