Weapons of Leiria Series

It starts with one of my favorite YA books. Continues with a sweet geekiness, and ends with a sassy romance.

Weapons of Leiria Series

Each book in this trilogy narrates a different story with its own main characters—although you’ll meet most of them in A Sharpened Axe (interconnected standalones).

Highlights

A Sharpened Axe is no doubt the best of this trilogy. It has the perfect combination of action, magic, interesting characters and romantic tension. The next book is all about second chances with a pair that surprisingly makes sense. We get a twist and a deeper profile of characters we met before. And the last book brings back some of that mischief from the first story, but in a classic romance—no fantasy here.

What to Expect

Book 1

  • Curse and magic
  • Badass female main character
  • Romantic tension
  • Defy of norms
  • Interesting characters overall
  • Class differences
  • Hardship and sacrifice

Book 2

  • Geeky characters
  • Fantastical creatures
  • Slow pace
  • ā€œEnemies to loversā€

Book 3

  • No fantastical elements
  • Fake engagement
  • Troubled past
  • Sassy characters

What I Missed

  • I would have loved to see more tension in the second book, plot and romantic-wise.
  • Even though I enjoyed the story, and in order to round up the series, I’d have appreciated some fantastical elements in the third book. At one point, I thought something was going to happen with the ā€œperceptiveā€ farm animals.
  • This is not necessary, but I wouldn’t have minded if the characters from previous books had intermingled a bit in the other stories.
THE END
