🌈 Remnants of Filth Series #1-2
A MM complex relationship with such insurmountable challenges that appears to be set to crash…
🎥 In a Snapshot
🔜 I’ll be reviewing the next books in this series later on. Stay Tuned!
Highlights
🥟
I have to say that I got very hungry while reading the second book—literally, not story-wise (well, that too).
You’ll explore the deep hurt, guilt and emotional scars left after love and betrayal; and the turmoil when the past collides with the present with no discernible outcome.
What to Expect
- Danmei genre
- LBGTQ MM fan-rom
- Manly man main characters
- Master/apprentice
- Secretly in love

- Rags to riches / social class gap
- Fall to disgrace
- Very few nondescriptive spicy scenes
- Emotional scars
- Chinese historical fiction
- Military romance
- Violence, torture, death, and intrigue
- 3rd person narrator
- Cliffhanger
- Righteous vs carefree personalities
- Unsolved past
- Righteous magic vs demonic cultivation
- Parallel conflicts
What I Missed
- Both books and the story in itself is beautifully written and translated. However, as it’s usual for series sometimes, there’s always a book that behaves as a filling. For me, book 2 was just that. All the mystery, intrigue and the love feud was set in the first book. So, nothing much happened in the second. The main conflict evolved very slowly. In fact, we get to see our characters work more through side/parallel conflicts than in revealing more of the centerpiece.
